Sophia Lacroix paintings

Sophia Lacroix is an award-winning Haitian American painter who was born and raised in Haiti, migrated to the U.S. at the age of 15, and now lives in Miami. She earned her BS in Nutrition in 1992 from the University of Florida, Gainesville, and now in her early 50s is pursuing her BFA at Florida International University intending to earn her MFA. While creating and selling her art as a part-time self-taught artist in her spare time, she has always supported herself by working full-time in some type of social service job due to her passion for helping those who are underserved or in need.

Sophia creates bright, hyper-realistic oil paintings and charcoal drawings about her nostalgic memories of Haiti and its beautiful people, especially market scenes reminiscent of the “marchés” (marketplaces) of her childhood. In her 25+ years of exhibiting and selling her art, Sophia has earned numerous awards and has been published in various books/magazines. She feels blessed to be supported in her ventures by her beloved lifemate and their amazing pre-teen daughter. Sophia's favorite quote from people who see her art is that one "...can almost walk into (her) paintings."
