Ryoko Kleiger Graduated from Temple University’s Japan Campus in 2016 shortly after her commitment to the United States Military ended. After studying the work of, as well as being greatly influenced by, the PROVOKE artists Kōji Taki and Takuma Nakahira,Yutaka Takanashi, Takahiko Okada, and Daidō Moriyama as well as the newer contemporary japanese photographer Yoshiyuki Okuyama, she set out to create photos bridging the gap of the early Showa-era Tokusatsu cinematic film style and modern escapist photography. The goal primarily being to theorize what would happen if Fuji’s old cinematic film stock, with oversaturated darks and washed out skys, was cut for use in modern analog 35 mm cameras. The results are otherworldly, almost dreamlike images, helped by the inspiration taken from the provoke artists of the late 60s and early 70s. Utilizing the techniques of Are, Bure, Bokeh(grainy/rough, blurry, out-of-focus), combined with the fuji cinematic stock look and feel she was so fascinated with as a kid she creates images that look as if they were taken right out of the 80s saturday morning Sentai shows with a modern feel.

Finally I have time to explain it. The Where is an idea I came up with a few months ago. See Im afraid of the dark, and I believe in the supernatural. I’ve been trying to find ways of coping with depression and how it impacts my insomnia. So I created this little guy, He’s basically this monster that only appears in the shadows but he’s benevolent. He doesn’t really want anything to do with violence and would rather eat daises.

He’s something I created to make people feel better, he’s here to help. If your feeling alone or scared, like theres something out to get you think of T.W. as I like to call him. He’s just out there chilling, looking for flowers and stuff he can eat. He ruins gardens instead of scaring people.
